MGSA Training Options

MGSA is an active supporter of flight training and stands ready to assist new members achieve their glider rating. We have an experienced staff of club instructors and two excellent 2-seat ASK-21 training sailplanes available for use by club members at Monroe Airport most weekends.

Our training operation at Monroe accepts two types of students:

1)    Licensed power pilots seeking a glider add-on rating, and

2)    Post-solo Student Pilots (ab initio new pilots) who have already soloed elsewhere in sailplanes.

MGSA-Pandora Aviation Partnership

For those interested in soaring with no previous flying experience (ab initio new pilots) or those seeking a more accelerated training opportunity through weekday flying, we offer a club partnership with Pandora Aviation (MGSA members Phillip and Lynda LaBerge) on the south side of Atlanta.

This partnership is designed to provide the continuity required for beginners to advance more quickly towards a rating.  It also allows student pilots who live in the Atlanta vicinity another very good option for training.

We can also provide information on out of state glider training sites to accommodate individual needs and preferences.

Regardless of training option selected, MGSA uses a flexible approach tailored as much as possible to the needs of the student. Learning to fly a sailplane is a challenging but rewarding experience. A safe learning environment is the critical foundation to that process.
